There comes a time in every mechanical appliance’s life when even with the best will in the world repairs are going to have to be undertaken. Although modern mechanical engineering has made appliances that are used outdoors tougher than they have been in the past the increasing complexity of these mechanical workhorses has meant that there’s simply more mower parts to go wrong. When the mower does go wrong we’re more often than not faced with a hefty repair bill. Some of us under these circumstances will begin to long for the old push rotary blade models, but more often than not we will bow to the inevitable and take the mower off to the repair shop. This is where many people make a costly mistake. Avoid your neighbourhood Jack of all trades repair shop. Although it’s likely that they’ll be bale to get the mower operating again it’s also likely that the repairs won’t last very long. One of the reasons that the approach of using the local repair shop is so attractive is that any repairs will usually be cheap. There’s a reason for this, the chap on the corner isn’t using genuine mower parts. If your repairs are going to last for some time then it’s essential that you take the mower into an accredited repair centre where at least you’ll get some comfort from receiving a guarantee of both the mower parts used and the worksmanship.
The use of genuine mower parts will undoubtedly extend the lifetime of your mower, however care should be taken that even with accredited dealers and repair shops that the genuine article is used. Always ask to see the part that is going to be used and ask the repair person to remove it from the packaging. Although this is not a foolproof method for ensuring that the genuine part will be used it should at least cause the odd crooked repairman to at least think twice before substituting the genuine part with a fake one.
So the common thread here is to make sure that you’re dealing with a reputable repair shop and insist on genuine parts. These simple precautions should see you back on the grass in no time.
